Definition: 3-Position Rocker Switch
A 3-position rocker switch has 3 different switch positions that can be selected: I, O, and II. Thus, it is an on/off/on switch that rocks (rather than trips) when pressed, which means that one side of the switch is raised while the other side is depressed much like a rocking horse rocks back and forth. This rocker switch features a single line on one end "I" (denoting signal 1 being active when depressed) and 2 lines on the opposite end "II" (denoting signal 2 being active). In the center of the switch, there is a circle "O" (denoting the off-position where both signal 1 and signal 2 are disconnected). The signals are often used as inputs to microcontrollers which allow users to control certain programmed functionality.
